The Gift of Passionaries is a positive and contagious book which profiles how a variety of individuals (one as young as thirteen), service clubs and corporations have made the world a better place by turning their compassion into action. Barbara Metzler inspires readers to be better and gives a roadmap of how they can activate their ideas. This can be as easy as matching their passion for a cause with an existing nonprofit, or they can start their own. I loved the profile of Zach Hunter, a 7th grader, who learned about the 27 million slaves in the world (including children), and started Loose Change to Loosen Chains. After each profile, Barbara lists ripples (positive changes emanating from passionaries), contact information for the nonprofits and resources. This book delivers heart, passion, information, and hope and is a must read for anyone who wants to make a difference in the world. I challenge all my fellow members of Junior League, National Charity League and Girl Scouts to read this book as there are many passionaries within these organizations!

I had the privilege of reading Barbara’s first book and was awestruck by the fact that someone would seek out good news. We have too much negative issues, news, politics and human suffering in the world that is reported over and over. It is so refreshing to read a book about good people doing good things and helping others. Each individual story gives a compelling look at someone making a difference. Her new book, The Gift of Passionaires, is more of the same wonderful messages of hope and service. It is wonderful to see someone recognize a service club, Kiwanis, for the great work that they perform globally. A fantastic read and a very heart warming experience.

Talk about powerful stories that positively impact people of all ages! When I read this book, I kept thinking why doesn’t television pick up these real life stories and put them into an inspiring reality series? The amazing truth is that ordinary people can be heroes in making the world a better place. Read this book to your children and grandchildren and consider, as a family, how to join one of these Passionaries in making a difference in the world.
