I am rather disappointed in this textbook.
The text does seem to cover basic logic and forms well. However, it doesn’t cover objects until the last chapter, and doesn’t cover them near as much as it ought to. Furthermore, it takes a strictly GUI approach; the book doesn’t cover console applications at all. Finally, despite having Visual Basic 2008 in the title, it doesn’t cover LINQ or WPF; major additions to Visual Basic in 2008!
On the whole, I feel there are much stronger introductory textbooks available for VB, and would not recommend this one.

If you are beginning your programming career, Visual Basic is an excellent start. This book is good for beginners. It is easy to read and follow.
